Within each tiny acorn there lies the potential for a mighty Oak to thrive and grow 

 

Our Nursery aged and Reception aged children are taught in Acorn class by Miss Miller (Class teacher) and supported by Mrs Davies, Miss Lloyd, Miss G Parry, Miss Roberts, Mrs Dixon, Mrs Eccleston and Miss Smith.  Our Early Years Unit,  catering for children aged 2 to 5 years, opened in November 2014.
Acorn class are very lucky to benefit from two spacious classrooms and an outdoor area to allow them to fully access all areas of the Early Years curriculum.
If you are interested in your child attending our Early Years unit please contact the school to arrange a visit/ collect an admissions pack.

Phonics Workshop for Parents
What to expect when – Parent Guide

All of the fantastic learning that the children demonstrate in Acorn class is recorded using ‘Seesaw’.

This is a safe and secure electronic record of your child’s learning journey.  Parents have access to view their child’s Learning Journey with their unique ‘log-on’.  Parents can comment upon their child’s learning and also share with us some of the activities their child does at home.

Teaching of Early Reading at West Felton

At West Felton we teach phonics (learning letters and the sounds they make) through a structured synthetic programme as approved by the DfES.

We make use of some of the resources provided by ‘Teach your monster to read’ which can be accessed for use at home.
We provide an informative reading workshop for parents and carers throughout the year to allow parents to best support their children with their phonics and reading.   Recordings of further support videos are available for parents on Seesaw.

A reminder that Reception and Nursery children have P.E sessions on Wednesday’s.  Please send children in wearing their P.E kits for this session.
