Computing is a fundamental building block to learning here at West Felton CofE Primary School. We recognise that Computing is vital for our digital future and a spark we should ignite for all pupils regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or ability.
In 2022, we placed Computing at the top of our agenda and set about revamped our Curriculum offer. We chose the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) to support us in our plan. The NCCE is a DfE funded initiative aimed at equipping primary aged pupils with the knowledge and skills needed to advance options, aspirations and ultimately careers.
Here is a taste of what the NCCE Curriculum can offer:
All of our Teachers and Higher Level Teaching Assistants worked hard to gain the NCCE accredited Primary Certificate in Computing which means that they are qualified, empowered and enthused to deliver a high quality curriculum to our children. We adhere to the pedogeological theories outlined by the NCCE which can be viewed here:

Our mixed aged classes are split for Computing so that we can show fidelity to the scheme and ensure progression throughout the phases.

We reviewed our offer after a year and concluded that the NCCE offered excellent National Curriculum coverage and engaging, well-resourced lessons. Our pupils thoroughly enjoy Computing; they acquire new skills, meet learning objectives and look forward to their weekly lessons. Here are just a few examples of what we get up to…
