Maths Whizz is an online platform which we, at West Felton, chose to invest in last year. We wanted to provide our children with more frequent, high-quality maths experiences alongside our daily lessons to boost confidence, accelerate progress and embed a love for the subject.
Maths Whizz assesses your child’s maths ability and calculates a maths age. It then provides online tutoring through games and activities to suit your child’s needs. As your child completes the challenges, they will receive ‘gems’ which translate as progress points.
Our teachers monitor usage and progress and reward the children through a variety of ways – virtual stickers, certificates and prizes in Golden Book assembly and a class cup for the most progress points! We can also adapt the tutoring to match our class topic to provide pre-teaching and consolidation activities.
Research suggests that 40 minutes Maths Whizz time and/ or 3 progress points per week can significantly boost a child’s progress and our anecdotal evidence would support this.
