Welcome back after Easter, this is our final term of this academic year. The children have worked very hard and I am proud of what they have achieved. Let’s hope for some sunshine and lots of fun.

Summer 2 – Castles and Dragons

Literacy Description writing based on castles and dragons. Writing a letter inviting someone to come and visit a castle. Labelling. Suffixes: ed, ing, er, est. Adverbs and expanded noun phrases.
Maths Addition and Subtraction. Multiplication and Division including fractions of amounts. Number and Place Value. Bar graphs.
Science Find facts about the Sun; explore & investigate shadows and how they change during the day. Identify seasons & months of the year.
Geography and History (Topic) History – Castles – Chirk Castle visit.

Geography – Find a route to Chirk castle from West Felton.

Follow a map around the grounds of Chirk Castle. Devise a simple map and use and construct basic symbols in a key.

Art and DT Junk modelling. Using graphite and charcoal to sketch a castle.
Computing/ ICT Internet safety. Copying pictures and learning to save. Creating PowerPoint presentations.
Music Musical instruments. Rhythm and Pulse. Drumming.

Looking at Ceremonies,  Symbols,  Worship  & religious leaders in places of worship.  The story of King David (David & Goliath)

Summer 1 – Enormous Turnip

Forest School will run for 3 weeks during the Summer Term 1.

 

Literacy Instructional writing and a story: Using bullet points and commas to create lists. Features of writing. Imperative verbs (bossy words), time connectives and adverbs. Traditional language, sentence types, adjectives and word types, story mapping/ walk  and speech bubbles.
Maths 2D and 3D shapes, Time, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division (halving Year 1), Measuring length, days of the week, months of the year, fractions, sequence events of time and number value.
Science Naming and identifying parts of the plant, what a plant needs to survive and investigating a plant’s growth.
Geography and History (Topic) Charles Darwin

Identifying the 7 continents and 5 oceans.

Art and DT Sketching a seed from observation. Printing with vegetables.
Computing/ ICT Internet safety. Building independence using computers. Drawing and writing using keyboard and mouse on 2paint.
Music Musical instruments.
