Our Church

Being a Church of England Primary School enriches the lives of everyone here at West Felton CofE Primary School.
We are very proud of our current SIAMS report:
This is a rigorous inspection which evaluates both the effectiveness and distinctiveness of our school as a church school. As part of this process we gather evidence and impact on a working document which can be seen here (last updated Jan 2025):
Preparing for Life in all its Fullness
Our Vision and Values can be explored further here.
St. Michaels Church is just minutes away from our school and we walk there on a regular basis; participating in services, festivals, concerts and competitions.
The clergy
Our Worship Leaders

Our children are very enthusiastic about our church links and each year, teachers nominate 8 Y4/5/6 pupils as Worship Leaders. These children attend a training day led by Alex Wolvers, our Diocesan advisor, Rev. Suzan Williams and Rev. Chris Precious. Around 30 Worship Leaders from our federated schools meet in church and learn how to plan and deliver engaging and enriching worship sessions for the whole school and evaluations reveal that these are often the most popular!
The Worship Leaders always play an integral part in church services; creating the order of services, greeting the congregation, and delivering readings during the service.
Competitions

Since Covid, our links with St. Michaels have grown and we now participate in regular competitions with the church. In 2022/23, we held a Christmas Card Competition, a Platinum Jubilee art & poetry Competition and a letter writing competition for the King’s Coronation. These competitions are judged by the whole community; with representatives from the church, the parish council and the WI to name a few. We have then displayed all entries in the church for a week for the community to enjoy, culminating in an awards service.
Ongoing support
As well as our partnership with the clergy and the church warden, Dr. M Davie, St. Michael’s church have been very generous in their donations to the school which have included prizes for the competitions, a significant amount to our ‘Beat the Summer Slide’ incentive which allowed us to provide free books over the summer holidays and they funded our Faith Tour to Derby.
